Space Force Is Now Official; Trump Signs Directives To Pentagon
A directive has been signed by Donald Trump, US president, which has ordered the country’s department of defense to build a Space Force as the part of US military, adding as the 6th military branch on Tuesday. The directive has been named as SPD-4 (Space Policy Directive) which commanded the Pentagon drafts legislature for Congress to form the ‘Space Force’ considered as a part of the US air force. The creation of the space force was the first in the last 72 years as the youngest part of the US military is the US air force which was created after World War II.
While addressing the press at White House, Trump said that America has to be defensive in protecting its vivacious interests. The military and technology agencies are forming a force which will ensure the US security in Space. The agency is working very hard for that, he added. The investment which we have made in creating this force will safeguard us, precisely in fields of defense and security, he continued.
The directive was developed by National Space Council along with Joint Chiefs of Staff, Director of National Intelligence Office, National Security Council, Management and Budget Office and White House Council’s Office. Presently the Space Force is being formed under the US air force care, it will get listed with Army, Navy, Air force and Marine Corps and chances are there that the new force will follow the Marine Corps structure. The Marine Corps serves under US Department of Navy but has its own chief.
The Space Force will have its own Chief and will operate under the air force with an officer as a secretary of space. In the same press conference, Trump said that he initially raised this idea as a strategic part of security on March 13th.
In the month of June, Trump ordered the Pentagon to work in the direction of Space Force and eventually directed the defense department and Pentagon to establish the 6th branch of US force as Space Force. He commented this without discussing the directive with Chairman of Joint Chief’s, Marine Corps. General Joseph Dunford.
